Our History

During the summer season, the Durham Region Health Department implements a beach monitoring program by conducting weekly water quality tests at public beaches. The weekly beach reports cover the testing results of all Durham Region beaches, including the newest addition, Iroquois Beach located in Whitby. However, please take note that the Health Department no longer conducts water sampling tests from Elgin Pond since there is no designated swimming area at the pond. The water samples collected from all Durham Region beaches are analyzed to determine the presence of high levels of bacteria, and the results are published to inform beach visitors about safe swimming areas. Unless stated otherwise, the reported results represent the routine, weekly monitoring executed by the Health Department staff.
